Drum Hill Camp 2005

Update Wed 1st June 2005

Arrived at Drum Hill Scout Site around 9ish. Situated by Derby in the southern end of the Peak District. Just about enought time to get the mess tent up along with personal tents before too dark.

"Spring Bank" is a mini jamboree with around 1000 Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Guides attending - it kicked off on Saturday morning around 9:30am. Climbing, abseiling, go-karts, air rifles, archery, laser clays, giant Jenga and Connect 4, water slide and much more. These activities went on all Sat, Sun and Mon morning.

Saturday evening saw everyone attend a disco and Sunday was the Marquee Party - a cross between a gang show and a campfire. Many groups had been before and had turned up with costumes, props and a good script. 19 acts in all (2.5 hours of show!) and we were last. There were chart songs and dance routines, there was the incredible expanding machine, Dr Who even made and apperance .... and so to 1st Henllys. No props, no costumes (apart from our "on tour necker"), just the Penguin Race - and we walked away with the best Act!. .... of course!!

All kids having fun and leaders chilling out.

Canoeing 2001.

Canoeing at Goytre wharf was a great success on the eighth of June.

Fourteen scouts came along together with leaders and a number of parents. It was a very pleasant evening by the water, all the scouts displayed their skills and parents had a pleasant walk along the canal side.

We had six Canadian style canoes in the water with three seats in each. Although there were some damp scouts at the end of the evening no one actually fell in.

The water activities stopped at eight o'clock and everyone then enjoyed a picnic. More canoeing at the same location is planned.

Well done Wendy and the other leaders.
