How much will it cost?
Meetings run during school term times only. Subscriptions are payable termly at the start of each term and are £23 for the first child, £21 for the second child and £19 for all other children in the same family. Of this about £8 goes directly towards capitation and the remainder towards the weekly running costs and meetings. For families on benefit these subscription costs can be claimed via the DSS. Please contact us for further details.
What does the scout executive committee do?
The scout executive committee is made up of a mixture of leaders and parents who meet once every two months to plan activities for the children and organise group events. They oversee the allocation of group funds, maintain all group equipment and organise fundraising events. An AGM is held every year to which all parents are invited to attend during which the officers are elected and the financial audit presented. The exec would welcome any parent wishing to join at any time.
How can I become a leader?
To become a qualified leader you will need to regularly help out with one of the scout groups (beaver/cub/scouts) over a period of years and undertake a series of training courses throughout this time. You would normally start by helping out on a regular basis and build up experience and responsibility over time. If you are seriously considering becoming a leader - or have been a leader with another group then please contact us.
Will my child fit in?
Children are welcome to come to a few meetings before they decide whether Scouting is for them. This will give them time to make friends and find out what we do. They do not need to purchase a uniform (minimum of the jumper/top only) until they are ready to be invested which is normally after four or five weeks. This means you will not have to outlay any money only to find after a couple of weeks they are no longer interested.
